Diagnostic Instruments for Autistic Spectrum Disorders
During 2011, NZSTA was approached by New Zealand Guidelines Group to endorse the findings of a review it had conducted into available, validated diagnostic instruments for use, in combination with expert clinical judgment, in the diagnosis of autism or Asperger disorder. The NZSTA had earlier provided comment on a consultation draft, and now endorses the final review.
During 2011, NZSTA was approached by New Zealand Guidelines Group to endorse the findings of a review it had conducted into available, validated diagnostic instruments for use, in combination with expert clinical judgment, in the diagnosis of autism or Asperger disorder. The NZSTA had earlier provided comment on a consultation draft, and now endorses the final review.
The review summarises the characteristics of several available instruments in terms of appropriate use and setting, statistical properties, training, qualification requirements and licensing arrangements. In addition, it sets out some potentially preferable combinations of instruments for screening and diagnosis of autism, and for the screening for Asperger’s disorder.
