Continuing Professional Development
Continuing Education Points
Since 2001, the NZSTA have employed a data collection system for monitoring members' on-going professional development. This system involves the collection and recording of Continuing Education Points.
Over a three year period, therapists are required to accrue a total of 45 Continuing Education Points (CEPs). These points can be gained from 13 categories of professional development. For some categories, there is a limit for the number of CEPsthat may be accrued within a year. These categories, and their limits, are listed below:
Section 1 - Educational activities specific to Speech-Language Therapy
- Conferences, conventions, workshops, lectures, rounds, seminars (no limit)
- University / College course in Speech-Language Therapy (no limit)
- Study / interest group in Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 5 points per year)
- Self-study in Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 5 points per year)
- Supervision / Mentoring in Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 8 points per year)
- Professional publications in Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 8 points per year)
- Formal presentation given in Speech-Language Therapy, NB: for first time only (limit: 8 points per year)
- Special projects in Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 10 per year)
- NZSTA Representation (limit: 5 points per year)
Section 2 - Educational activities in related topics relevant to Speech-Language Therapy
- Conferences, conventions, workshops, lectures, rounds, seminars (limit: 15 points over 3 years)
- University / College courses on a related topic relevant to Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 15 points over 3 years)
- Formal presentations in related topics relevant to Speech-Language Therapy (limit: 8 points per year)
- Special projects in related area relevant to Speech-Language Therapy
At the conclusion of each calendar year, therapists are required to submit their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) forms to the the NZSTA Office for monitoring of on-going professional development.
