Professional Development

Information about upcoming professional development/training events being held both nationally and internationally and general information around professional development

NZSTA Hamilton Professional Development Seminar, Hamilton May 2013

We are pleased to announce that both Felicity Bright and Cheryl Palmer have accepted our invitations to present keynote addresses.  Felicity is currently completing her PhD and has a particular interest in engagement in rehabilitation.  Cheryl is working in the Ministry of Education and has a lot of clinical experience working with clients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

This year we will be running a series of 25 minute oral presentations on a similar clinical or professional theme followed by a Q&A session for the presenters.  This programme will give you the opportunity to update your knowledge in your practice areas, while also giving you exposure to initiatives and research in other areas of practice.

The NZSTA AGM will be held on Thursday 23rd May at 5.45pm. All members are encouraged to attend.

Professional Development Events

The Professional Development Calendar is the place to go to see a list of professional development events.  Unless stated otherwise, these events are not being run by or in conjunction with the NZSTA.

If you would like to list an upcoming event on this website, please contact National Office.

Please view our Professional Development Policy here.

Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Education Points (CEPs) are used to keep track of the professional development undertaken by current members of the NZSTA. It is required that full members accrue 45 points in a three year period. There are thirteen (13) categories in which members can obtain points, with limits applying in some categories.

It is the responsibility of the NZSTA to you, and your employers, clients and communities, to sight your CPD logs and ensure you are completing the required amount of professional development for Full Membership. It is also a requirement of our Mutual Recognition Agreement with our five MRA partners.

For the 2013 renewal year we will be alerting your employers if we have not cited your CPD log by 1st March 2013.   This is to ensure that we, The Association, are meeting our professional standards and responsibilities.

Please note: Submission of a CPD log is not a requirement for the Student, Retired, Associate or Provisional (new graduates or returning to practice)categories.

Recording of CEPs is now carried out primarily by computer; the Continuing Professional Development Form can be be e-mailed to the Administrator once completed or uploaded when you complete your on-line membership renewal form.  Please retain full records as proof of any professional development activity for verification and audit by NZSTA.
