Professional practice of Speech-Language Therapy in New Zealand is guided by the NZSTA Code of Ethics (2000).
Introduction to the Code of Ethics
A high standard of professional and ethical integrity is paramount in Speech-Language Therapists' fulfilment of professional responsibilities.
The NZSTA Code of Ethics outlines six ethical principles relating to professional competence and integrity, personal conduct, relationships with clients and other professionals, confidentiality and research.

Ethical Procedure Committee
The Ethical Procedure Committee has the responsibility of reviewing ethical complaints made about Speech-Language Therapists. The committee is made up of the following members:
- President of NZSTA
- Professional Standards portfolio leader
- 3 elected members of NZSTA - currently Helen Rigby (Wellington) and Heather Drysdale (Wellington), and one vacant position
- Consulting lawyer
